Chapter 8

We can pick a piece from this culture, and that one, to make up who we are.  All of these little pieces make us a large family that as grown and matured with time. Unfortunately, not everyone matures at the same level. We are all part of one another if we just look hard enough.  The world is a small place, and if we look around most of us are immigrants from another land.
Immigrants have suffered many different problems with discrimination.  This is not a recent problem, and it has been going on ever since America was discovered.  Even when America was discovered; the Indians who were here first were discriminated against. Today, many immigrants live in poverty stricken areas, taking jobs that typical Americans do not want. Many of these jobs are lower paying jobs with long hours and hard working conditions. Even with these immigrants filling the gaps in our society to help make America a better place, we still discriminate against these people.
Even with all of the obstacles that immigrants have faced over the years, America would not be the place it is today without these people.  They are strong, resilient, and have changed America in many different ways.  These changes range from music, art, culture, foods, and technology.  Many of these changes have become part of who we are today.
Increases of different culture fluctuations depend on world problems, or their own country problems.  An example would be; Lybia has many problems currently, and so America will start seeing an increase in Lybian's moving to America in the next year or so.  These fluctuations in different cultures causes America to grow and change.  These changes effect everything in America from the jobs available to the different children in our schools.  It also creates pockets of new cultures in different cities all over the USA.
Another example of this is the Marshall Islands and the fluctuation of people that now live in Springdale, Arkansas. As with any new culture these people not only bring a different way of life but can also bring diseases that we are not use to being exposed to.  This can cause another type of discrimination.
It is hard for me to understand the discrimination that Americans cause. The only people that should be angry about discrimination in America, is the Native Americans. Unfortunately, they are still trapped on land that America has given them back that we did not want. In many instances, the Indians are still looked down upon. It seems to me that America does what it wants to please itself when it is convenient.
